WELCOME TO THE 9th ANNUAL LANDLOCKED FILM FESTIVAL!

Landlocked Film Festival… we’re right in the middle of a lot of land. No coasts, but plenty of culture here in the American heartland.

A competitive festival celebrating its 9th birthday in August 2015, Landlocked presents independent movies from around the world. Thousands of audience members gather in Iowa City’s historic downtown to watch diverse films, from two minutes to two hours long, from artsy experimentation to outrageous comedy, from heartwarming family stories to heartbreaking drama, from hard-hitting documentary to music video to amazing animation.

Landlocked’s 2010 workshops and panels were honored with an award from the Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance (ICCA) in 2010, while the 2011 screening of Miss Representation received ICCA's Reaching Out Collaboration Award. Each year, film and script professionals join us from the film and television industries in Los Angeles, New York and Vancouver to give presentations. Filmmakers come from around the country and even overseas to network with one another and to meet and talk with audiences at their film screenings.

Iowa City is the perfect venue for a film fest, with its compact downtown location, its friendly and relaxed vibe, its boutique hotels and variety of restaurants, and its cultural standing as the home of the world-renowned Iowa Writers’ Workshop and one of only a handful of cities worldwide designated as a UNESCO City of Literature.
