WELCOME TO THE THIRD ANNUAL LANDLOCKED FILM FESTIVAL!

Landlocked Film Festival… we’re right in the middle of a lot of land. No coasts, but plenty of culture here in the American heartland. Landlocked is a competitive festival taking place in historic and lovely downtown Iowa City.

Established in 2007, we've experienced dramatic growth in our short history. The festival brings thousands of people into the heart of downtown Iowa City to watch independent films and learn about the crafts of filmmaking and scriptwriting.
The beautiful and historic Englert Theatre serves as our flagship venue. Screenings, panels and workshops also take place in Iowa City's state-of-the-art library and the Sheraton and hotelVetro conference facilities.

Landlocked presents independently made documentaries and narrative films and videos of lengths ranging from 2 minutes to 2 hours. You'll find animation, art films, outrageous comedy, sweet stories, action and adventure, heartwarming and heartbreaking drama, hard-hitting documentaries and even some zombies and aliens. An added bonus is that many of the directors, actors and film artists who made the movies will be at the festival.

It's fun. It's intriguing. It's educational. Don't miss out!

Cultural Corridor

Landlocked Film Festival is a proud member of the Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance.

The Cultural Corridor is the nickname for the growing area that spans the Iowa City to Cedar Rapids corridor along I-380, one of Iowa's cultural hotspots. Their detailed calendar shows events to attend nearly every day of the year.

About Iowa City

Iowa City, the only U.S. city holding the UNESCO City of Literature designation,
is a cultural mecca in the heartland as well as a warm and friendly place to visit. Plan to attend the festival and experience the many free events, meet filmmakers from the United States and overseas in attendance, learn about filmmaking and scriptwriting from professionals, and watch films you can't see in the local multiplex.
Plan to stay in Iowa City or nearby Coralville and enjoy the atmosphere and amenities in the area.
