Landlocked
Film Festival

|
Landlocked Film Festival was created to support independent filmmaking by bringing the best of independent world cinema to the American heartland, by providing workshops led by experts in their fields, and by fostering a dialogue between audiences and filmmakers.
The inaugural festival took place in August 2007 at the beautiful Englert Theatre and nearby locations. Landlocked screened 67 films and videos in competition and offered workshops featuring Helen Kantor, Stu Pollard and other experts in their fields. Over 30 directors and producers attended and were able to watch their entries with audiences.
For 2008, Landlocked is partnering with Iowa City's Summer of the Arts, an umbrella organization that fundraises for and promotes the city's long-running Jazz Fest and Arts Fest, each of which draws about 30,000 attendees annually. This support permits Landlocked screenings and workshops to remain free to attendees.
The 2008 competitive festival will include categories for short and feature-length narratives and documentaries, as well as student and animated films and feature-length screenplays.
In August 2008, Landlocked will once again welcome independent film- and videomakers to visit Iowa City,
participate in roundtable discussions, and attend the workshops. Special events will be announced as they develop.
